CANADIAN DJ SHOW 2010

by Stu Chisholm

Later this month, the Canadian Disc Jockey Association, the world’s oldest mobile DJ organization, will be presenting their 2nd annual DJ Show just outside of Toronto.

IT’S DÉJÀ VU

This year’s show runs September 19th and 20th at the Delta Meadowvale in Mississauga, Ontario. Based on my book, “The Complete Disc Jockey,” I’ll be presenting my newly revamped and updated seminar on “Multiple Income Streams.” And yes, I’ll have plenty of copies of my book available for sale as well! I’ll even scrawl on it if you insist.

I’ll be sharing the seminar stage this year with industry leaders including Ron Rivlin, Ed McMurtry, Mark Imperial and a dozen others, including DJ Shine who will be demonstrating Ableton for pro users. If you need help with marketing, working with agents, performance techniques or all of the legal ins and outs of DJ work, this show has a seminar for you!

ABOUT CANADIAN DJS

Canadian DJs face a different set of problems than their U.S. counterparts. For one thing, they haven’t had an economic crash there as we’ve had in the States and the wedding business has remained strong.

Another fact of life for the Canadian DJ is the quirky nature of their copyright laws and SOCAN (the Society Of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers), the Canadian equivalent of the RIAA. It creates odd situations, such as some music that cannot be uploaded into digital playback systems, forcing even computer-based DJs to carry around a CD player. Then there’s the individual fees one must pay on an annual basis for each hard drive used, and very restrictive legal options for DJs to download music.

Yet it seems that DJs everywhere want to know: how do I pump-up my income? Rather than take a day job outside of the entertainment industry, Canadian and U.S. DJs are looking for some ways to augment the services they already provide, find new, complimentary things to offer in addition and, if one must take a “day job,” find one within the field.

This will be the focus of my seminar, which will be at 1:45 PM on Sunday, September 19th.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!

One more great feature of this year’s show compared to last; seminars will be divided between the club and mobile arenas. This way, there will be fewer times when attendees will have to choose between two seminars they really want to see. Adequate time in-between has been added to let people go from one seminar to the next without having to run!

TAKE OFF TO THE GREAT WHITE NORTH

So again, put September 19th & 20th on your calendar, invest in your business, expand your horizons and get a hands-on dose of The Complete Disc Jockey! For more information, visit the show website at: www.cdjshow.com.
