This past New Year’s Eve, I performed at an event that took place in the community where I live.
As the evening wore on, even with thirty-six years of experience under my belt, I could not believe how anxious I was feeling because I really wanted to make this event one of the best I’ve ever done.
Once the party got started, I got into my comfort zone, and proceeded to rock in the new year at the one of the best performances of my career. My wife was with me at the event, and she even commented that she hadn’t seen me perform at that level of excellence in years.
A Healthy Lifestyle Can Lead to Better Performances
I believe that the reason I felt so great on stage was because of my recent lifestyle change. About sixty days ago I decided to get healthy by eating the right foods, and taking the 90-day Body By Vi challenge.
As of today, I’ve dropped 22 pounds without even exercising, which is why I endorse this challenge. It has worked wonders for me, but I need to tell you about one of the reasons I decided to make a change.
Don’t Let This Happen To You
A couple of years ago I went on a DJ Cruise and met a colleague by the name of “DJ Hollywood.” He was somewhat of a loner but a very likable guy. After not seeing him for awhile, DJs started asking each other about his whereabouts.
Eventually it was discovered that everyone’s worst fears had come to pass. DJ Hollywood was found dead in his cabin. He had died from overeating, and we could only speculate as to what made him eat so uncontrollably that it led to his untimely death.
This is just one of many cases of people in the entertainment industry who are happy when they are on stage performing, but they are crying on the inside, looking for a way to escape the bondage of food.
Change Your Mindset Before It’s Too Late
Friends, from my heart I say this to you: There is a way out from staying trapped into the mindset that we have to stop at fast food places after a gig. Yes, I have done this myself during my entire career but I’ve stopped.
As entertainers we have choices, and getting healthy can not only prolong your career but your life, as well.
Become a Positive Role Model
There are studies that show that the next generation of kids are already obese due to what they eat in school. You have also heard the age old adage that children emulate their parents. That’s because parents can influence their kids positively or negatively depending on how they live their lives.
Chances are if you do drugs, your kids will follow. If you super size your food, they will too. I remember as a teen my father would come home late from the clubs and at 3:00 am. frying pork chops. Well, guess what I followed that tradition, and because of my bad choices my health became at risk.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege and honor to mentor many colleagues in our industry about many facets of entertainment and running a business. Now I plead with you to please take care of your health. Please contact me if you’re in need of some support.
