Take My Challenge for a Better New Year

by Ray Martinez

When my dear friend Stacy Zemon asked me to be a contributing writer for ProMobileDJ.com to help inspire my fellow colleagues, I immediately said “YES!” What an honor it is to have this forum to try to help make positive changes in our industry.

As 2010 comes to a close, it’s a good time to reflect back on the past year and look ahead to the upcoming one with resolutions that can potentially better ourselves, and the lives of those with whom we come in contact.

As I have gotten older (and hopefully wiser), this subject has become very personal to me. You see, I have watched my father suffer with health issues because of bad choices he made. In some ways, I have followed in his path by making a similar self-destructive choice — specifically, eating to my heart’s content.

The Major Decision I Made

When you consider how convenient it is to get our food, the typical large portions we eat, and how many of us have too sedentary a lifestyle, the results can be disastrous; obesity, poor health, and even heart disease and death.

Because of this, I’ve made a decision to have a healthier lifestyle. There are three DJs I’d like to mention by name, who have made an important impact on my decision – Marcello Pedalino, Mike Walter and Sean “Big Daddy” McKee.

15 Great Reasons to Change

My reasons to change include my ten grandchildren, four children and gorgeous wife with whom I want to spend more time.

After thirty-six years as a DJ Entertainer, the wear and tear of forty extra pounds has taken its toll on these beat up knees, which need to be replaced. My cholesterol (which doctors consider the silent killer) is very high as well.

Those of you who know me personally, know I absolutely love entertaining. If I want to continue to be at the top of my game, I must make the proper changes in my life.

Tipping The Scale In My Favor

As of November 12, 2010, I tipped the scales at 227 pounds. In a two week period from November 12-November 27, I personally have dropped 13 pounds. By the Mobile Beat Show in Las Vegas in February I plan to be at 190 pounds. That is a difference of 37 pounds.

I can’t describe how high my spirits have been at the progress that I am making, it is an awesome feeling.

Nothing is as sweet as accomplishing a goal you set out to achieve!

Accept the challenges so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory.

Here’s My Challenge To You

My friends, I say this to you with heartfelt sincerity and I am making a plea to you, in fact I am challenging you — “PLEASE DON’T WAIT TO LOSE WEIGHT!”

If you are struggling like I have, I am offering to you what my friend David Hanscom offered me because he truly cared; a new lease on life. I saw him lose 47 pounds in 90 days.

It can be done. I want you to know you are not in this alone, I am on the same team as you are. If you need personal help please e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at (623) 386-8891.

I will be there to help you face your fears. Don’t let your fears stop you from becoming the person you deserve to be. “Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.”

Change is inevitable, meet your fears head on, take baby steps, and change your frame of mind, with these small changes you can be on your way to making 2011 a fabulous year!
