If you were paying attention to advertising in 1990, Andre Agassi appeared in a commercial for Canon Cameras featuring the new EOS Rebel camera. Those of you who know tennis also know that Andre was a rebel in many ways; however, very few athletes have taken the effort to overhaul the way they are perceived by the public.
In his late teens and early twenties Agassi had a rebel image. His rock star hair, colorful shirts, and his earring added to that image. He ate a lot of cheeseburgers and endorsed the Canon Rebel camera with the tag-line “Image is everything,” and he took ownership of that concept!
As one of only six male players to have won all the Grand Slam tournaments in a career, he has emerged as a gracious and thoughtful professional athlete, and even an elder spokesman among the sport’s active players.
Your mother probably told you that “You only get one chance to make a first impression,” but what Mom did not realize is that you only get about 12 seconds! 80% of what someone will think about you will occur in the first 12 seconds that they see you, or your marketing materials.
What Has This Got to Do with Weddings?
Take a look at your business cards, promotional flyers, website, Facebook page and anything else that is out there for the potential client to view. Do they say, I am a professional and I will do everything possible to make your event perfect, or is it a bunch of hype and canned phrases that are way too overused?
What about your Facebook profile photo? Is it a professional headshot or an action photo of you at an event, or a poor quality snapshot?
How about your business logo? Was it professionally designed, and does it convey who you are and what you are selling, without being cheesy or cliché?
Just remember the old saying, “If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got.”
As an Entertainer, Your Image Must be Excellent
Another aspect of your image is your personal appearance. You may need a haircut or a shave, or go on a diet and exercise program. Constantly update your wardrobe and always be the best dressed person at every event. It shows that you care about yourself.
Take a look at the Man in the Mirror. What is your first impression of him? If you are honest, many of you will recognize that a change is necessary!
