All Aboard!

To the ProMobileDJ Community:

Most people have probably played Monopoly© and mispronounced the “Reading Railroad” (that drives me nuts…but hey, I get it). It may come as a surprise but, there is more to Reading, PA than just a railroad…our little town is also known for some real celebrities: Keith Haring, Chad Hurley, and of course…Taylor Swift, just to name a few of the few dozen or so…I am lucky to call this city “home”…but I digress.

Earlier in the month, we said goodbye to our previous editor and wished him well in his new pursuits. Now, please allow me to introduce myself:

To understand what led me here, I should go back a bit to where it all started…1991. Just recently out of the United States Navy, I was looking for some fun part-time work to supplement my full-time income. I was reading (Not Reading…lol) the classifieds and found an ad for a local DJ company looking for help. After the first event as an assistant, I was hooked!

It was only a couple years later that I decided to go at it on my own…1993 I started my own business. The following 2 decades were quite the blur…from part-time solo op, to full-time with 15 entertainers and over 300 events during our busiest year, all the way back to solo op at the turn of the millennium. We started with just DJ service, and added karaoke, game shows, photo booth, and even some voice talent work along the way.

Early on, I decided there was value to joining an association and around 1996, after speaking with Bruce Keslar from N.A.M.E. and jumped in with both feet. My membership value far surpassed the cost of joining almost immediately and I have been a member ever since. For nearly 2 decades, I have served on the advisory board for N.A.M.E. and presented seminars locally, regionally, nationally, and for a few international conventions as well.

Certainly, I have left out too many other things, but I won’t bore you to death with them all…suffice it to say, it has been a very enjoyable, and rewarding career.

Last month, Carol Keslar reached out to me in search of someone to fill the Editor position for ProMobileDJ. I ain’t gonna lie…I gave this quite a bit of thought. After a week or so, I decided this was the right place for me to be and the right time to do it.

This publication has been around for more than just a couple years as most of you know. I realize that I have big shoes to fill, and the industry is always changing. As such, I want to be sure to provide content that adds value to you not only in business, but also in personal ways as well. Please know that this publication exists for the benefit of the reader. The only way that benefit can continue is with your input. If there is something you feel needs to be covered, I need to know about it…if there’s something being overlooked, I need to know about it. Most of all as an umbrella statement, if you feel you aren’t being served, I need to know about it.

My entire life’s work has revolved around “service” in one way or another, and this is yet another chapter in that book of service. I think of it as being the conductor on a train, and you are a passenger…I value your trust in me to make sure you not only arrive, but that your experience is nothing short of first class.

This train is now departing for 2018…”All Aboard!” I hope you’ll come along for the ride!

He has served on the Advisory Board for N.A.M.E. for over 10 years and has been a speaker at local, regional, national, and international conferences on numerous business topics relative to the industry.
